Cross It Off the List

Because of our whole accident fiasco, we ended up driving part of the way to Houghton, Michigan in the dark. And if you’ve never been on a county road in the Upper Peninsula at night, let me just tell you that dark means completely black. It means stars are everywhere. And it means that when you see a greenish light in the sky, it’s something special and not just a tinted bit of light pollution. So when I saw the greenish light, I screamed to my friend, “Laura, is that what I think it is!?”

It was.

So we spent the next hour with our heads popping out of the sun roof of our loaner car gazing at the northern lights in the crystal clear Michigan sky. It was the most ridiculously perfect ending to a totally surreal day. I love this state!

(P.S. I did not have a tripod for this photographic endeavor of the night sky so bear with me a little here. If you want to see some proper Northern Lights photographs, visit my friend Sean’s ever-increasing collection but prepare to spend some time there as it’s impossible not to get sucked in.)
