Hello 2020!

2019 was an exceptional year! I had the honor of photographing tiny courthouse weddings and big museum weddings, families coming together for pancake breakfasts and families welcoming new babies into their homes, children playing in the leaves and children boogieing down on the dance floor. I had the chance to photograph people praying together, cheering for their six-month-old as he sat up for the first(ish) wobbly time, and my last shoot of the year was one glorious birth in the wee hours of a snowy December morning. It was a delightful whirlwind and I’m left with heaps of photographs I can’t possibly narrow down beyond a ridiculous amount. So, maybe today you’ll look at 50 and tomorrow 100 more, and so on. Come back, scroll a bit, and digest. I can’t possibly cull out any more joy.

In trying to narrow down photographs to share with you, I always use my guiding principles – the principles I bring with me to each and every shoot all year long. They are:

1. That the images document and hold emotion. I want you to REMEMBER how you felt when you look at this photograph in 50 years.  How did it feel when you held your baby for the first time? When you heard your husband’s voice for the first time on your wedding day?

2. I want the images to be reflective of who you are in this moment. They need to feel like YOU, like YOUR life. Because when you look at this photograph, you’ll only love it deeply if your sweet people are doing what only your sweet people can do.

3. I want the images to be timeless. I want you to love them today, tomorrow, and in 50 years.

Cheers to a bright new year full of more happy people and thank you to all of those who put their trust in me to document their lives in 2019!
